The Mudflap Girl must have been you phantasm once. When I was a kid, I found out something untiringly appealing about the mysterious Mud Flap Girl. In fact, at that time she was a mystery, you see. All I could see was my girl on mud flaps or in front of big trucks and used to wonder where she hails from. Curiosity is satisfied one day. So did mine.
As I delve deeper I found that Bill Zinda apparently designed her in the 70’s, who was the owner of Wiz Enterprises in Long Beach, California. And the model behind her inspiration was Leta Laroe, one of the most appealing strippers of that time. Although, the usage of Mudflap Girl was confined to humble mud flaps or splashguards, it was nothing more than a part of truck and auto accessories of thick black rubber.
What made this Mudflap girl evoke mystery though her visible body contours however, without revealing the actual personality? Popularly known as silhouetting, a part of image editing, it is this form of art, which was used to make her stand out in the imagination of people all over the world. Undoubtedly, it is the art of silhouetting, which made Mudflap Girl take over from functional truck and car accessory reaching out to larger masses of people in the form of pop culture form of self-expression. That is what made her the buxom silver silhouette comprising of a long-legged beauty provoking more with her hair blowing in the wind. However, all the credit goes to silhouetting.
